Real Food for Real Dogs
Vitalpaw was born on a foggy San Francisco morning in 2021, when our founder Sarah watched her rescue mutt, Biscuit, turn his nose up at yet another bowl of premium kibble. Biscuit — a scruffy, opinionated terrier mix adopted from the SF SPCA — had been dealing with dull coat, low energy, and a sensitive stomach for years. Vet visits, specialty kibbles, allergy tests — nothing seemed to stick.
One weekend at the Ferry Building Farmers Market, Sarah struck up a conversation with a local rancher about the quality of his pasture-raised chicken. “If this is good enough for my family,” she thought, “why isn’t it good enough for Biscuit?” That afternoon, she went home, researched species-appropriate canine nutrition, and prepared Biscuit’s first raw meal from scratch. He didn’t just eat it — he inhaled it. Within three weeks, his coat was gleaming, his energy was back, and his stomach issues had vanished.
Sarah started making raw meals for friends’ dogs, then friends of friends, then strangers at the dog park who kept asking why Biscuit looked so good. What started as a labor of love in a tiny kitchen became Vitalpaw — a small-batch raw dog food company committed to sourcing from Northern California farms, using only human-grade ingredients, and flash-freezing every portion to lock in nutrition and freshness.
Today, Vitalpaw feeds thousands of happy dogs across the country, but we’re still the same company at heart: a team of dog parents who believe our best friends deserve real food, not processed mystery pellets. Every recipe is developed with veterinary nutritionists, prepared in our San Francisco kitchen, and taste-tested by Biscuit himself (who, at 11 years old, still acts like a puppy).
